Sometimes I hold off writing about difficult clearings because I simply do not want to bring that energy back up again in my memory. Much like we do not welcome memories of car crashes or tough surgeries back into our lives to ponder. As I sit down to write this report, I have reduced certain energy centers in my system (Chakras) so I will not feel the experience as much in recalling it. This is a technique I have learned and over time have perfected so I do not feel emotions as much when working with clients and hearing about challenging times in their lives, or if I am doing a clearing. This focuses my energy higher in my chakra system, so that I see and understand well, but do not have to feel the event so strongly.

The best policy for doing a clearing is to go with a great kit of tools,

have your Guides with you, have great respect for what might be there (like the respect you have for a great wave or storm), but have no fear.  Entities or ghosts are like certain animals that can feel your fear and will take advantage of it. It is also good to have one or two trained assistants with you who know what they are doing. But this often doesn’t work out for me, and I have done a good number of clearings on my own. When I have done my research, my Guides are in tow, and I have a clear understanding of what I am walking into, the clearing/blessing almost always works out okay for all.

I don’t consider my work to be anything like the TV shows about ghost hunters. I am really all about negotiating with energies and spirits. Give respect, respect, respect! But this clearing really does fit the “made for TV” category well – complete with good photos. Lots of movement in a dark, confined space, no place to run or even walk, and here it comes! I do not want to be thrown against a wall or have an entity breach my energetic defenses to my body. This can happen and did happen to a spirit work colleague. She then needed my help in banishing the entity that had attached itself to her. So really, my blog is usually not about ghosts flying towards you eating cupcakes trying to slime you, like the Ghost Busters movie. But this case is a little different.

There have been just a few times that I have been in progress on a clearing, with my Guides close by, that I felt vulnerable. It’s the same kind of feeling you might get if you are tired, driving alone late at night in a neighborhood you are not familiar with, and you get a flat tire. You are fine, maybe you call for service help, and then you see some people walk around the corner of a building right towards you. You feel afraid… and then they stop to ask if you need help. The service vehicle turns the corner, and you are fine.

In my case I did not have a flat tire.  I came face to face with a powerful self-serving entity in a cramped, dark crawl space under an old house, with only my Guides in support and most of my tools out of reach. This energy was not interested in negotiating; it knew why I was there and wanted to take full advantage of my situation. I could not stand to defend myself; I could only shuffle backwards, crouched and crablike on all fours, moving as fast as I could to get to my full bag of clearing tools. Yes, I felt very vulnerable.

But let’s back up a bit and see how this all came together on a hot summer day in the Mission Hills neighborhood of San Diego, California.

This client is a sensitive. Her gifts allow her to notice and see energy on a very high level. Feeling and noticing energy is one thing; clearing unwanted energy is another. You may know that something is around you, that you are not alone. Or that the antique dresser you bought was in a home that had some difficult times. But what do you do then? With some training we can do well in managing our energy and defending our energy field, most of the time.

I have worked with this client for a couple of years, helping to clear her energetically and teaching her about healing and energy stones. I had cleared her home before, in August of 2007, with a trained assistant and my Guides. There was a good deal of energy there, and the clearing took quite awhile. I used a number of tools to remove old imprints.  There were orbs, mostly not a problem, but we saw a ghost walk from her living room into the kitchen who was not interested in communication, and not there for her highest good. Once it went into the kitchen we did not run into its energy again, but I created a boundary to keep it away, just in case. I took photos under the house and a light look did not reveal much energy.  From her paperwork, the readings with rods and photos, and our own abilities, we identified the energy to be cleared from the main living areas and did so. I supplied a list of deflections and Feng Shui remedies. After the clearing, the house energy seemed lighter and remained that way for some time.

From the first clearing, I could see that her home had many challenges. It is on a canyon and most of the house sits on stilts – literally not grounded. The roadway curves left in front of the house, sending the energy from cars and people (or traveling spirits) directly toward the house. Judging by the cigarette butts, gum wrappers, etc., it looks like the sidewalk gets a good deal of foot traffic. The back of the property is open, with no fence or wall to prevent people from coming up the canyon and interacting with the house.

My client requested another clearing in the summer of 2009. There had been break-ins next door, a man had been sleeping in the hammock below her deck, and some of her personal property, including mail, was missing. She lived alone in this old house with her two cats, and I felt she had lost interest in it – it had become too much for her to manage energetically. With the challenges of the house itself, and with her being a sensitive, energy was attracted like moths to a flame. She was running out of the energy reserves to keep them away.

Based on my research for this second clearing, I wanted the support of an assistant. With two of us and our Guides, we would have the strength needed if we had to confront something that was not open to negotiation. As it turned out, I wasn’t able to get an assistant lined up, but that was okay – I felt I could handle it.

My client felt energy was coming from below the house. On a couple occasions, we had placed energy stones under the house, and previously, I had felt energy moving up like a vortex in the old heating system in the living area and along the chimney. But to be honest, this time it felt mild. It seemed to me that her own energy was very low and maybe what she really needed was some time away from her home, a vacation to regroup and relax.

I cleared the living space of the home first. Walking from room to room, the clearing moved rather fast. There were no orbs to be photographed. But I got the strong feeling that her home was no longer being imprinted by her energy. There was a void in the home from this lack of imprint, but no energy present, other than her and her kitties.

I headed to the driveway to make my way under the house. I asked my client to burn some sage and use Reiki symbols to keep it clear upstairs, in case I ran into something that wanted to exit without giving me a chance to communicate. She gave me the key to unlock the crawl space door with and down I went.

Under the house, I felt like I was in another time, over a hundred years past. I found an old broken wooden pipe like you see in the movies. There were wire strands tacked here and there that maybe held wood or pipes at one time. A bit of light came in through the crawl space door and also through some small patches where the shingle siding of the house had broken. But the space was mostly dark and definitely too short to stand up in. I had to move crouched down, sometimes on hands and knees, progressing bit by bit.

As I took readings with my rods, moving about with difficulty, I found it hard to carry everything – my bag of tools, my rods, flashlight, and camera. So I left the bag, grabbing a small container of holy water and sea salt, and moved deeper under the house. I would use the salt to create a barrier once I was done clearing the crawl space, and I wanted the holy water with me – just in case.

It was hot and stuffy. My clothes were drenched with sweat and getting caked with dust and dirt from below. But I kept moving, doing energy reading and taking photos, clearing spaces as I went. The readings and photos help me find the energies that are difficult to see, or are perhaps hiding.

Then I came upon something very odd. There was a pile of sand. Not that unusual – my client loved the beach and maybe she had thrown some under the house. But this sand pile had a drawing in it.

And not a comforting image at all. It reminded me of what I might expect to see drawn on a wall in the final minutes of the Blair Witch Project. It looked kind of like a bird or owl, with deep set eyes. I felt that someone had been under the house, probably up from the canyon. But the more I looked at the drawing with my flashlight, the more it seemed to be co-created. Perhaps someone, maybe even my client, got under the house, then found themselves in a trance… that’s what it felt like to me. It was like automatic writing (how spirits write through you), but instead of writing it was a drawing of a strange creature. With talons, deep set eyes, and strong wings it was really saying, “Keep away!” The more I looked at it, the more I felt connected to its energy. And the more I felt my tire go flat someplace I would rather not be.

Clearing this symbol became my next priority. I looked around quickly with my flashlight, took a couple photos and used my rods to help me see energy. I asked if there was anyone or any energy form that needed assistance. Dead silence, just a small creak of the floorboards above. All seemed clear, the photos showed nothing in the air, no orbs, so I proceeded with my work. I surrounded the drawing space with holy water while doing a blessing. Then I used sea salt to seal the space and started drawing Reiki symbols in the air above to hold energy in. The area felt larger than it was as my holy water and salt created a perfect circle around the drawing.

Then I felt a huge surge of energy come up from the ground in front of me, like the earth itself was being pulled up. When I looked up, it was like a wall of energy stood before me. The underside of the house fell away to the canyon and although there was structure around me, I felt the fast decline of earth in front of me.

I quickly said, “I am not here to push others aside, if this is your home and you are in harmony with those living here, that is fine.” Then I asked, “Do you need help in any way?” I am sure this all came out of me very fast, and it was the last thing I said for several minutes. I felt the energy moving towards me, like a sand storm or a sheet of cold hard rain, but this was solid energy. I started to crab-walk backwards as fast as I could. I needed to regroup. I wanted some tools out of my bag and I wanted a wall behind me. I was out in the open – vulnerable.  I could not stand up, or even walk on my knees. There were support beams and pipes that I had to maneuver around and under as I went. I mostly found them by running into them.

With this energy moving fast toward me, I started thinking, “Next steps! Guides be strong, go to my sides!” My Guides as orbs can move very fast and will assist in any way they can. I was sending all my energy in front of me to block the entity’s movement. My flashlight was hanging by a cord on one hand and my camera hanging on the other. The camera kept getting in my way, dragging along in the dirt as I moved toward my bag. So I stopped just for a moment and took a shot. I felt a strong surge moving to my right, which, in the photo, appears as a visible fog or mist in the previously clear air. 

I stopped to block the energy for a moment, and asked a Guide to move that direction, and I took another shot. Just that quickly, the mist was gone. The energy seemed to be moving in multiple directions now, but my crab-scramble was getting me ever closer to my bag of energy tools.

I felt something to my left and quickly took another photo.  Finally, I lunged to my bag and pulled out sprays, stones, and herbs very fast. At this point there was no thought of, “Let’s talk this out, can’t we just get along?” It was, who is stronger and who is going to attach or deflect or weaken the other.

With my back protected and my tools in hand, I held my ground and deflected the energy that was moving towards me from the front and the right side. As the next several minutes went by there were more surges toward me, but I noticed they were not as strong. It was kind of like standing next to an open fire pit. From time to time, the fire really catches and burns and you can feel the intense heat, so you move back for a minute until it calms down again. That is how this felt but more dense and electric, and unlike a contained fire, it moved all around me like a cat in the dark.

This encounter lasted about twenty minutes. I was able to remove this energy from under the house because it showed itself as I was closing a portal it had been using (the drawing in the sand). And it was determined to get at me, rather than just hide and wait. So our jousting took its energy down to a level that I could work with.

With my tools, my Guides, and my own energy, I could move it out of the space and seal the house off from it, at least for the short term.

What I want to say next is very important. If you had come along with me on this clearing to assist, you may have noticed what I did. But depending on your gift, it might have been more a feeling, not seeing, or just an energy awareness. You may not really have known that something was right in front of you. You might have felt something like a small sting if it energetically attacked you, or it might have thrown you off your feet. Or you may not have noticed it at all. We all see and feel and notice differently; we all have our reality and how we relate to it. But if you had this energy contact, a couple days later you might feel tired, like you were coming down with a cold. Your dreams might become less fun, even slightly upsetting. This might increase over time. Your attention to what you do might lessen, your work might suffer, or your relationships shift. You might even start saying things out of character for you, or the world might just feel out of balance, like something is missing. You might recognize that you are not alone. It is important that you know what you are doing when you get into these situations. Be very respectful, have heightened awareness, and hold on to what brings you spiritual confidence. There is overwhelming good out there and just a few energies like this one who are self-serving. This is true in the flesh and in spirit energy.

I drove up to but never went on this property again. My client had lived there for a few years, but moved out a few months later and left the city.
